Here at American Legion Post 113, Napa, Ca, we see the value in everyone. We want to be a catalyst for positive change, and since our beginnings in 2000, we’ve been driven by the same ideas we initially founded our Non-Profit Organization upon: support, empowerment and progress.

Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. American Legion Post 113, Napa, Ca emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the community, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words.

Rodney Skillings

Commander

Rodney Skillings is the commander of the American Legion Post 113 in Napa. He takes on the role formerly filled by Robin Mueller.

Skillings was born and raised in the Napa Valley,

In the 1970s Skillings joined the Navy and volunteered for the submarine service, and was sent to Groton, Conn. He was later assigned to the USS Whale.

After the service, in 1979 he returned to the West Coast. Skillings then lived and worked in the Los Angeles area and raised his family. In 2013, he returned to Napa.

A few years ago Skillings met someone that was a member with the American Legion Post 113 here in Napa and became a member.

While helping to do odd jobs at the post he met some great people that were helping other veterans.

Before accepting the commander role, he served as the 1st Vice Commander of the post.

Military service runs deep in his family

Skillings mother’s father and his brother both served in the Army during World War I.

“I see the American Legion as a place for likeminded people to get together and help each other in the community.”

Jeff Hullquist

1st Vice Commander

Jeff Hullquist is the 1st Vice Commander of the American Legion Post 113 in Napa. He takes on the role formerly filled by Rodney Skillings.

Hullquist was born and raised in the Napa Valley and is a 3nd generation with his family coming to Napa in the late 1800s

​

In my high school years I was a member of The California Cadet Corps (Junor ROTC). In my senior year I joined the 579th Combat Engineer Battalion (ARNG) where I served for 13 years with an Army MOS- 31V Tactical Communications Systems Operator.

I had a law enforcement career working as a reserve police Sergeant for Napa Police Department and adviser for their cadet program then as a transit police officer for BART and ended my law enforcement career as Chief of police for the Napa Valley Railroad Police Department. In 2008 I joined Post 1000 of the American Legion. I then transferred to Post 199 in Saint Helena and recently transferred to Post 113 in Napa.

I’m currently the 1st Vice Commander of Post 113 with additional duties as a bar tender at the Patriot Lounge.

I serve as the Chief Radio Operator for Post 113 Amateur Radio Club (TALARC) Both a hobby and a means of civil-defense communications during natural disasters, amateur [HAM] radio has long been an interest of veterans, many of whom served in communications roles in the military.

With us since our founding, CJ Bertagna is one of our veteran team members and has played a critical role in shaping our mission. He brings years of experience and skills in helping American Legion Post 113 grow and make a measurable impact.
